Here’s what you need to know.

TBHQ is the most common food preservative companies use to keep shelf life high. This preservative is used in many common foods such as Cheez-It crackers, Pop-Tarts, Reeseā€™s Peanut Butter Cups, and Little Debbie Swiss Rolls. A recent study has shown that the preservative found in these foods are harming the immune system.

The data from the research and testing taken for TBHQ showed that the preservative alters immune responses which can suppress the immune system. The researchers stated that the FDA should look into the effects of these preservatives to re-evaluate them. The immune altering nature of the preservative can lead to dangerous situations that could impact a person’s overall health.

The researchers did note that the research had many instances where the new data did not agree with previous data that they have acquired. They stated that the lack of consistency with the data shows that more research needs to be taken in this measure.
